Stamford police shot and killed a 200-pound pet chimpanzee Monday after it attacked a woman who was visiting the animal’s owner, The New York Times reported. The chimp, called Travis, caused the woman serious facial injuries leading to “a tremendous loss of blood,” Stamford police Lt. Richard Conklin said. The chimp’s owner, Sandra Herold, repeatedly stabbed her pet multiple times with a butcher’s knife after witnessing the attack on her friend. The victim, whose name has not been released, is in “very serious” condition in Stamford Hospital.
