Tweed New Haven Airport will be requesting $6.5 million in funds from the state government toward airport maintenance costs, the New Haven Independent reported Wednesday. Tweed Executive Director Tim Larson told members of the East Shore Management Team that he plans to ask the state for financial assistance in order to clear space along the airport’s flight path to prepare for increased flight traffic that airport executives said they expect to see in the future.

On Oct. 24, a U.S. District Court ruled that Tweed Park had the right to extend property 1,000 feet beyond the end of its runway, to the chagrin of East Haven residents who said they fear airport expansion.
