New Haven Police Department Officer Diane Gonzalez was transferred out of Yale–New Haven Hospital on Tuesday, according to hospital officials. The release comes nearly two months after she was involved in an on-duty car crash Sept. 9, which killed fellow cop Sgt. Dario “Scott” Aponte as the two officers were responding to a routine 911 call. Gonzalez, who was left in a coma, remains on life support; her family decided to relocate her to a rehab facility in the South, Chief James Lewis said. The family released a statement Tuesday expressing confidence that “Diane will begin a journey of rehabilitation.”
