A 17-year-old boy lost control of the car he was driving on Mitchell Drive in front of Wilbur Cross High School Tuesday morning, resulting in a crash that has left him in critical condition. Tuesday’s heavy rain likely contributed to the crash. Police believe that the boy’s gray Honda Civic, which he was driving alone, hydroplaned across a large puddle in the road. The boy lost control of the car and crashed into a utility pole, causing him to fly out the passenger side of the car. The boy, who is not a student at Wilbur Cross, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. As a result of the downed utility pole, 83 customers lost power. All but one had regained power by 3 p.m.
