Aldermen, led by Ward 14 Alderwoman Erin Sturgis-Pascale, unanimously approved legislation Thursday for a steering committee to develop and implement pedestrian-safe street policies for the city. Over the summer, traffic-calming initiatives grew popular around the city as the New Haven Safe Streets Coalition pushed for a petition to form a coalition on the issue. NHSSC Founder Mark Abraham ’04 said many aldermen had expressed support for the legislation. Sturgis-Pascale could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday night.
