Elvis Lopes, 32, did not expect that a broken sink would get him arrested, a city press release reported. But, on Friday night, police charged Lopes with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools after he was found stealing the copper parts of water pipes in the basement of 336 Quinnipiac Ave., the report said. A resident of the home went down to the basement after she tried to turn on her kitchen faucet and discovered that no water would come out, the statement said. The resident started to scream, and a nearby man who had heard the scream called the police and chased after Lopes. Lopes fled on foot, but he was later caught blocks away by police, the statement said.
