New Haven Police Department Chief James Lewis officially promoted Peter Reichard to assistant chief of investigations at a Thursday-afternoon ceremony at NHPD headquarters. Reichard’s promotion is the latest of several shake-ups at top levels of police leadership, including the appointment of Lewis himself in July, as well as the selection of two other assistant chiefs.

Reichard joined the NHPD in 1987, having previously worked within the Family Services Unit. Now, Reichard is leading efforts to cut down crime in New Haven, including a crackdown on prostitution in Fair Haven through high-profile stings.
