New Haven is hoping to hire a consultant to determine whether narrowing State Street would allow for more development, the New Haven Register reported Thursday. Currently, the street is bordered on one side by shallow parking lots and is near a railroad. The city would like to consider making the street narrower, which would potentially allow for businesses to occupy the space, the Register reported. The Register reported that the development at the former Shartenberg site may increase the traffic in the area.
