Clarification: University doesn’t own York Square space

To the Editor:

I write in response to a statement in the article about the closing of the York Square Cinema (“Goodbye, you little theater o’Broadway) that appeared in the Sept. 2 scene section of the Yale Daily News.

Specifically, the article stated that “the University has not yet slated a replacement for the cinema,” giving the impression that Yale owns or controls that property, which we do not. It is owned by the “Yale Mall Partnership,” which has no affiliation with the University, though perhaps the partnership name is the cause for the confusion. Since we have no ownership or control of the property, we cannot determine what tenant is recruited to fill the now-vacant space.
