Urging the administration to consider binding arbitration

To the Editor:

As Yale faculty, we write to express our concern with respect to the current strike. While we will, of course, make every effort to meet our obligations towards fulfillment of the University’s educational mission during the strike, we believe that we can only meet these obligations fully if the strike is resolved as soon as possible.

As a means to this end, we strongly urge the administration to consider binding arbitration.

While we share the concern that a settlement imposed by a neutral third party might not be optimal, it is far preferable to the dislocation that is now occurring daily.
