New Haven and state police arrested two men after a four-hour standoff in the Quinnipiac Terrace Housing Complex in the Fair Haven neighborhood Tuesday morning.

“A trooper stopped a vehicle southbound on I-91, but the driver tried to run over the trooper to get away,” said Sgt. Paul Vance, a state police spokesman.

State police notified their New Haven counterparts of the subsequent pursuit at approximately 10 a.m., after the car entered the city. The two suspects drove into Fair Haven and abandoned their car before entering an apartment on Peck Street in the Quinnipiac Terrace complex, New Haven police said.

Police called in the New Haven Police Department’s Special Emergency Response Team, or SERT, as well as crisis negotiators. Officers on the SERT team subsequently entered the apartment and apprehended the two subjects, New Haven police said.

The two men, who were not immediately identified, were arrested and charged by state police, who said they also arrested a third man and charged him with interfering with the first two arrests.
