Limited resources constrain club teams
Students milled around in the grass, finding and tossing broken glass, beer cups and assorted pieces of metal into a 40-gallon trash bag, triple bagged so that the 23 pounds of debris would not tear through it. Students were not dealing with the remnants of the previous night’s party; rather, the two Yale Ultimate Frisbee teams were cleaning up the Intramural fields before the start of their tournament, the Yale Cup, on April 6 and 7

Funding for club sports is still insufficient for many of the clubs to function without significant dues and alumni support. No club team, to my knowledge, received even the lower limit, $1000, this semester. Transportation and overnight stays are nearly always an out-of-pocket expense for the teams.

I can only hope that while the YCC looks into sources of funding for club sports which "only" get $1,000-$2,000 per semester, they will not neglect to look out for other competitive activities such as mock trial or dance groups, which only receive hundreds of dollars each semester, very often forcing individual students to pay hundreds out of pocket to cover costs of travel, hotels, supplies, costumes, etc.
