News Tips, Letters to the Editor and Guest Columns
The News welcomes all submissions of letters to the editor and of guest columns. Letters typically run no more than 300 words, while columns run approximately 600-800 words. Submissions should be emailed to the Editorials editor and must be received by 8 pm if it is to run in the next day's paper. You must include your full name, any affiliations with Yale University or another institution or organization relevant to the letter or column, and an evening phone number so that you can be contacted if your piece is chosen for publication. All submissions to the News must be previously unpublished.
Most letters that we publish are direct responses to an article or column that appeared in the News. Opinion pieces, though oftentimes sparked by an issue raised by a prior article or column, are primarily meant to raise new topics for conversation or put forth a substantially developed new argument about an issue already raised. The News reserve the right to edit all submissions prior to publication, though authors will be contacted regarding any major changes.
If you are considering writing a letter to the editor or a guest column, please feel free to contact the Editorials editor to discuss your topic before submission.
If you would like to submit a news tip or press release, please email our editors.
